My friends account just been hacked and I manage to "talk" with the hacker.

We do not allow the posting of names

Summery: He threaten my friends account, I gave him my home phone number. Yet he still didn't keep his word.

Is a new way to stealing? What should people do? Punishable by law? Discuss.

Edit: I gave him the number of a college teacher I swore revenge on. My paper was an A+ and she gave me a D+ for unclear thesis.

Edit 2: I might be royally screwed because my teacher knows I hate her... This could end good or REALLY bad.

Sure, one could try to go through the whole thing, but Ill read a book instead, thank you.

I doubt it's punishable by law, considering the thief probably lives in china or korea, good luck getting a hold of them.

Why would you bother giving your number to a hacker? You think a hacker is going to keep his word on not trashing his account? The fact that you made him jump through hoops is just going to piss him off.

In this kind of situation, report to Anet asap. Don't have a long convo with him, don't try reasoning with him just report and hope Anet moves in fast enough to save his stuff.

Yeah, but this is the first time I heard of this. Hold an account hostage for stuff, luckily I gave him a college teachers phone number that I swore revenge on. Sadly I did not know how to react.

How will they know you gave them your phone number? Anyway, I highly doubt they would bother calling your number anyway.
